This 40 acre island is made of coral and situated right on the Great Barrier Reef which gives it the advantage of all other resort islands in Australia. The island takes its name from the distinctive reef herons seen here. It is part of the Bunker group of islands and the Tropic of Capricorn virtually runs though this national park. The small island is surrounded by white sand beaches, and during certain times of the year, you can observe the giant turtles laying eggs in the sand. Heron Island is a fascinating island to wander the reefs when the tide is out or take a walk though the dense pisonia forest in the center of the island. All the dive sites are only minutes from the island. Accommodations consist of lodges or suites and all prices are inclusive of meals. |
