The Fiji Islands

There are 330 Fijian Islands scattered over the South Pacific representing one of the last diving frontiers in the Pacific. The Islands offer spectacular reefs with world class diving, indigenous only to this part of the world.

How to get there

The Fiji Islands are 5 hours by flight from the Hawaiian Islands and can be reached from the West Coast in 10 hours. Air Pacific and Air New Zealand fly from the West Coast to Nadi, the International Airport. The outer Islands can easily be reached by Air Fiji or Sunflower Airlines. Travel tips and information

A valid U.S. passport is necessary for travel to Fiji. The currency used in Fiji is the Fijian dollar. Travelers checks are easily cashed, and most hotels accept major credit cards.

Dress in Fiji is usually casual. Due to the warm climate, it's best to travel with lightweight cottons. Bathing suits and shorts are appropriate for the resorts but should not be worn into the villages.

Fiji has a tropical maritime climate, tempered by the ocean and trade winds. The cool dry months are from May to October. The temperature in July can even drop to the low 70's, so it is wise to bring a light sweater or jacket. At this time of year a 3 mil wet suit is recommended. The hot, wet season begins as early as October, but the heat and humidity are more concentrated during the first 3 months of the year.
