Bitung, Lembeh Strait

The Lembeh Strait is located just north of the busy port town of Bitung. Here you will find some of the finest diving in North Sulawesi. Lebeh Island, long and narrow, runs parallel to the coast of Sulawesi, creating a calm channel protected from both the northeast and southwest monsoons. Prevailing currents through the area bring a rich supply of plankton. For divers interested in rare and unusual animals this is one best sites in the world.

Kungkungan Bay Resort

Kungkungan Bay resort is a small exclusive resort on the Lembeh Strait, just a few miles north of Bitung on the eastern side of Sulawesi's northern peninsula, opposite Manado. The resort, built in traditional Minahasan style, has 1,200 feet of private beach and is surrounded by rainforest. The pristine reefs here are little known, and have been only recently discovered by pioneering divers.

For macro photographers the diving here is paradise. On any dive you might experience: Ambon scorpionfish, frogfish, pygmy seahorses, lionfish, jawfish, long-tailed robust and ornate ghost pipefish, pipehorses, stargazers, snake eels, sea moths, comet fish, blue-ringed mimic and other octopuses, skeleton shrimps, squids, large and small cuttlefishes, flamboyant cuttlefish, mandarin fish and a bizarre assortment of mollusks, nudibranchs, crabs, shrimps, worms and other critters yet to be named.
