Wakatobi Dive Resort is one of the world's best remote dive travel adventures. It is situated on the island of Tomia, which is one of a number of islands that comprise Tukang Besi. This remote archipelago is an established marine park, located about 250 miles north of Flores and southeast of Southeast Sulawesi. This area is said to be the epicenter of marine biodiversity, and is appropriate for the dedicated diver who is prepared for the lengthy trip required to experience these pristine reefs. The coral reefs of this area are off the continental shelf, and drop-offs extend to 200 feet. There is a spectacular house reef where action starts 30 feet from the resort.
Jacques Cousteau declared the Tukang Besi Islands as the finest diving site in the world. Photographer Larry Tackett says "World's greatest house reef, without a doubt." There is no need for long boat trips, as there are many excellent dives a short distance from the resort. Beach dives offer turtles, rays, batfish, crocodile fish, scorpion fish, ghostpipefish and leaf fish. Pelagic sightings are almost inevitable on boat dives. You might observe dolphins, sharks, rays, tuna, barracuda, marlin, bumphead and parrot fish, as well as pilot whales in season.
Accommodations are in a traditional long house or a beach bungalow. The longhouse contains 7 guest rooms with detached bathrooms. All the guestrooms have attached balconies and ceiling fans. The deluxe bungalows have ceiling fans and bathrooms. The resort has 24h 110V/220V/50Hz power, running hot and cold water, VHF radio and satellite, telephone, fax and email. |
