How to get there

We recommend traveling on our contract fares with Singapore Airlines. Singapore departs out of San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York for Singapore. From Singapore there are two flights a week in both directions on Silk Air to Ujung Pandang: Monday and Thursday. From Ujung Pandang there are daily flights on Merpati Airlines to Kendari. From Kendari you take an overnight ferry to Wakatobi.

There are plans to develop travel though Bali in 2001. Please check with us for update.

Travel tips and information

A U.S. passport is required to enter Indonesia. You must have 6 months of validity on your passport. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens. At the moment there are no inoculations necessary for entry into Southern Sulawesi, but we recommend you see your doctor or call the health department.

Recommended hotels in Ujung Pandang: Pantai Gapura Makassar*, cottages built over the sea, close to the stall restaurants along the sea and the famous Buginese wooden schooners.

We work with Cartika Travelindo, a travel agency that can personally transfer you to the airport, handle your ticket reconfirmations and book sightseeing. We highly recommend a 3 day trip to Toraja, an area with one of the most interesting and intact cultures in Indonesia.

*The name of Ujung Pandang has recently been changed to Makassar.
