Pohnpei

The big island of Pohnpei, along with eight outlying atolls and Minto Reef make up the state of Pohnpei, about halfway between Honolulu and Manila. There are few beaches on Pohnpei, but there are rugged rain forested slopes and water falls. Much of the land is skirted by mangrove swamps, and the island surrounded by a barrier reef and over 25 islets. The nearly untouched reefs are teeming with marine life and dazzling corals. One might see on a drop off white and black-tipped reef shark, barracuda and pelagics. Pohnpei is also know for their ruins, Nan Midol which was built by a king in the 13th century.

How to get there

We recommend our low cost air fares on Continental Airlines. There are many Continental cities which connect with Continental Airlines out of the west coast. Many of our divers combine Pohnpei with other Micronesian Islands. There is a minimal cost to add other islands to your destination.

Travel tips and information

This is one of the rainiest islands in Micronesia. The lowest rainfall occurs between January though March. The wettest month are April and May. Temperatures average 81 degrees, and for most of the year you get breezes from the trade winds. The water temperature are in the low 80's. We recommend taking a boat tour to the ruins of Nan Madol.
