This furtile coastal strip is backed by rugged mountains and is considered the most beautiful town in Papua New Guinea. Offshore are a string of still active volcanic islands. There are World War II wrecks to dive here, large protected lagoons, and the outer barrier reef is dotted with islands. |

From Port Moresby there are several daily flights from Port Moresby to Madang. |

The town of Madang is small and well worth visiting. There is a monument to "The Coast Watchers" who were the people of New Guinea who helped the allies during World War II. The village dancers from this coastal area do a terrific dancing performance for the visitors. |
