This province is a short trip from Port Moresby, a flight across the Owen Stanley's. It is one of the closest dive areas from Port Moresby on the Solomon Sea, and this is where you will find Tufi Island Resort.

Tufi Island is one of Papua New Guinea's best kept secrets with its spectacular beauty and quiet charm. Tufi is situated at the tip of Cape Nelson, which juts into the Solomon Sea, just a short flight from Port Moresby between Alatau and Lae. This small, hilltop resort is quite picturesque, with its miles of beaches and deep-channeled fjords. The local villagers are proud of their unique church choirs, which can be visited by divers on Sunday mornings.

Three fast boats take you to the dive sites, less than 30 minutes away. The resort focuses on reef and muck diving. The Fjords are excellent for macro diving and snorkeling. The outer reefs are all within 30 minutes, and many are uncharted yet to be discovered. The variety of diving is overwhelming from manta cleaning stations to hammerhead sites. Soft and hard corals cover the reefs with prolific schooling fish such as mantas, whales, dolphins and dugongs.

Tufi Island Resort has recently been completely renovated. The resort has 14 rooms, some with air conditioning and some with ceiling fans.

There are three flights a week from Port Moresby to Tufi on MBA Airlines.

Additional baggage allowance is offered by Air Niugini for divers who enter Papua New Guinea on a Air Niugini international flight. The airline also gives international flights a domestic pass which they can use a no additional cost for other destinations within Papua New Guinea. Great Destinations recommends Air New Zealand and Continental Airlines for passengers traveling via Australia and Singapore Airlines for those passengers traveling via Asia. These tickets may be obtained at discounted prices.
 

There are wonderful small villages that are a must to visit. The local people welcome visitors and will often invite them into their homes

Oxygen is carried on the dive boats. The Telita is moored at Tufi Island and is available for charters from the resort. E6 processing is available on the Telita. The closest chamber is located in Port Moresby. Diving is protected and good year round, best season is April though November. The water temperatures range from low to high 80's.
